St Peters Way Hike - Part three PDF Print E-mail
Written by Ian Mitchell

This time it's final! Well it will be the final part of the St Peters way that we will be hiking on sunday the 13th March. Parts 1 and 2 we did last year in the spring and Autumn. For those who attended both of those hikes this is a great opportunity to complete the entire St Peters Way walk. Something not done by many people. For everyone else it will be an opportunity to flex the hiking legs and blow away any winter cobwebs.

The hike will start at 9:00 prompt, so please be at the start by 8:45 latest. the start point is the car park of the Bell pub Purleigh (Map reference: TL 843 020). the hike will end at the Othona Roman fort on the coast (TL031 081), but we will meet parents at the car park of the Cricketers pub Bradwell-on-Sea at 5pm.

This hike will be approximately 25 kilometres, so proper equipment (boots, etc) is a must.

The required kit is as follows:

  • Good rucksack with hip belt
  • Waterproof rucksack liner
  • Waterproof coat (waterproof trousers optional)
  • Walking boots with ankle support and walking socks
  • Hiking trousers (absolutely no jeans you will not be allowed to do the walk if you turn up in them)
  • Technical base layer (long sleeved)
  • Thin fleece
  • Warm fleece to put on when we stop for lunch, etc
  • Warm gloves and a warm hat
  • Packed lunch including snacks (sweets or dried fruit is good) in your pockets
  • 2 litres of drink in proper drinks bottles (no cans or shop pop/water bottles)
  • Compass and Explorer Map 176 are optional
  • Any personal medication you might need
  • A bit of pocket money (in case we walk past a sweet shop)

Additionally I will be carrying:

  • Bothy shelter

Hope to see you all then.
