The following table provides an outline of the equipment needed for a week long camp, this is only a guide and should be tailored to the event, in line with the leaders specific instructions.

Area What Description Done
Transportation Kit Bag To take personal kit to/from Camp. Large enough to hold all kit but child needs to be able to carry it; It should also take up minimal tent space. Everything must be in the kit bag or day sack. No sleeping bags in bin liners please.
Day Rucksack To carry items needed on day trips. Large enough to hold coats, lunch, etc, but not to big. 30litres maximum.
Plastic bags To store dirty cloths. A number of plastic carrier bags will be useful to store dirty clothing in.
Sleeping Torch A small torch is always useful, but a head torch is preferable. Turn batteries round to prevent switching on in bag during travel. Spare batteries will also come in handy.
Sleeping Bag Warm enough to be comfortable. Packed into stuff bag, or bed roll. No bin liners thank you.
Ground mat Insulates person from ground and acts as a mattress.
Night cloths Pyjamas, pants t shirt, need to change from day clothes .
Washing & hygiene Soap/shower gel, toothbrush & toothpaste. This probably won’t get much use, don’t make it to big, use half empty bottles or buy sample sizes. No Aerosol containers. Roll on only. Water proof bag to contain it all.
Antibiotic hand gel One small alchoholic hand gel that can be carried around with them in a pocket.
Towels Two medium rather than one large.
Clothes Full uniform Arrive & depart site in uniform. Will also be needed for opening/ closing ceremony, day out.
Shorts, T shirts, trousers, jumpers, underwear, socks Enough, for 7 days, not everything will get changed every day!! No jeans or denim clothes, because if they get wet they do not dry and chafe. Convertible combat trousers combine long and short trousers in one.
Swimming kit For wet games and water activities.
Footwear Hiking Boots Boots must provide protection to ankles on rough ground.
Trainers 2 pairs Smart trainers may be worn with uniform.
Wet boots (optional) For water activities.
Weather Protection Waterproof Coat & trousers Plan for 7 days rain, water proof not shower proof please.
Sun Screen & Hat To ensure your child is adequately protected from sun. Provides protection to head & back of neck.
Warm hat, thick fleece To keep them warm in cold weather, and at night in the summer, when temperatures drop.
Eating & Drinking Knife, fork, spoon, plate, dish, mug. Basics required for eating, may be plastic, enamel, not best china. Name on all items. Use paint, nail varnish or engrave.
Cutlery Bag Follow our instructions for making a cutlery bag out of an old tea towel folded in half, with a real fancy drawstring. The bag must be tiable to a washing line to hang up in the tent.
3 Tea towels Each Scout will be responsible for drying own plate etc. Should all be inside the draw string type bag. Loops on them make them easy to hang and dry.
One, 1 litre water bottle With a good lid to stop leaks. This bottle will get dropped and bashed, so a proper bottle will be needed.
Accessories Camp chair Folding camp chair, for sitting around the camp fire. A chair with a back is better than a stool.
Clothes pegs For hanging out tea towels, etc. 3 x wooden ones with name written on them.
Watch A cheap watch, so that they can be back on time.
Medication Any illness’s should be declared on health form, any prescribed or regular medication should be handed to the Camp Medical Officer and should be clearly labelled with persons name and dosage required.

Optional Gaiters For keeping trousers dry in the long grass.
Fleece over sleeping bag Made from a fleece blanket folded and sewn.
Book to read in quite moments One that it doesn’t matter if it gets wet or damaged.
Compass Only if they have one.
Camera Try a disposable if you are worried that your best Canon might get wrecked!
